    Health

With mortality rates amongst Yolngu people up to four times the national average in some areas, there are numerous health issues currently threatening indigenous people. Through projects undertaken on a Fee for Service basis, ARDS is working to provide effective education to Yolngu people in the area of health in various ways. In addition to the resources below and on the left, you can also listen to health educational radio programs by Clicking the Hear Programs button below:

    Microscope Literacy

ARDS uses microscopes in a classroom or one-on one situation to explain the concepts of germ theory, essential to giving people an understanding of the germs and microscopic organisms which lie at the cause of many forms of disease. Here is a list of equipment that we recommend for Microscope Education.

    Diabetes Education

ARDS maintains that people need good quality explanations for the health problems that they are facing so that they can take control of the problems and deal with them effectively. We offer here a summary of our HEALTH EDUCATION MODEL which discusses our methodology with reference to Diabetes Education. Strongyloides Education

ARDS is seeking to educate people and raise awareness of Strongyloides, which is a tiny parasitic worm. Strongyloidiasis is caused by infection with enteric threadworms, Strongyloidiasis causes significant ill health for extended periods of time, and is the cause of death in a smaller number of cases. A partnership between MiWATJ health, The Top End Division of General Practice and ARDS saw the development of an educational flip chart. ARDS is currently seeking to develop an educational video on the subject
