There are many ways ARDS can help you to communicate more effectively and successfully with Indigenous people in a health context:

  • the Foundations in Health Literacy DVD and the Rheumatic Heart Disease Story Telling Guide which provide step-by-step guides and include the rationale behind health literacy focussed education

  • information papers and books on working with Indigenous people in a cross-cultural, multilingual environment

• learn a Yolŋu language through our language learning resources.

• request a professional development in-service for your staff covering any or all of the following:
  • health communication with Indigenous patients and their families

  • health literacy in an Indigenous context

  • working with interpreters and other Indigenous staff

  • working across cultures, languages and worldviews in a health education context

Much of this training will be Yolŋu specific, however many of the underlying principles and concepts apply to other cross-cultural contexts.
