    Getting around Darwin

    Darwin's domestic and international airport is only six km's from the city centre and the airport shuttle that drops passengers off and picks up anywhere in the city centre links the two.

    Darwin has a good city bus service running with consistently Monday-Friday and irregularly, weekends.  Buses run from the terminal on Harry Chan Avenue with fares calculated on a zone system.  If you're looking for a city tour, there are a number of privately run companies offering tours at varying prices.

    General Darwin Info

    Darwin City offers a selection of specialty and tourist orientated shops including cinemas, diverse multicultural food outlets/restaurants, souvenir shops, tourism agencies, and pubs. The Mitchell St precinct is the main "party" strip.The The Wharf Precinct and Cullen Bay Marina complex offer a range of food venues. The Darwin Tourist Bureau is located in Mitchell St near the corner of Knuckey Street and is open 7 days. Tours to all popular Top End tourist attractions including Kakadu and Litchfield Park through them or other travel agencies. The Mall shopping area is open six days a week with some shops being open seven days. It is best to check opening hours if you are going in to town for a specific purpose.

    Casuarina Shopping Square, the major shopping centre of Darwin, is approximately 5 minutes by car (3km). You can catch a bus (Route #1) direct to the shopping centre. All the major retailers are there including, Kmart, Woolworths, Coles, Big W and a large variety of specialty stores. The Eatery on the ground floor offers meals, snacks and fast food.

    Casuarina Shopping Square is open till approx 5.30pm each day with late night shopping on Friday nights. Coles Casuarina is open 6am to 12midnight.Woolworths Casuarina is open 7am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 10pm on Sunday.
