    Why Warriors lie down and die

    Audience

    Why Warriors uses history, narrative and case studies to give a glimpse of life from the other side of the cultural and language divide; the side where the Yolngu people of Arnhem Land live. It also presents careful analysis to suggest new directions. It will make interesting reading for a wide range of both professional and non-professionals alike. These will include:

    THE MARKET
    Australians who;

    • are concerned as to why “the problems” seem to persist in Aboriginal communities,
    • are interested in gaining a greater understanding of the issues involved in reconciliation,
    • want to experience the frontier history of Arnhem Land from the Yolngu people’s perspective,
    • are searching for answers regarding the plight of indigenous peoples around the world.

    Professionals who work with, or who intend to work with, Aboriginal people such as;

    • doctors, nurses, counsellors, psychiatrists, hospital staff and administrators,
    • teachers and teaching assistants, university and TAFE lecturers and other staff,
    • researchers, students and lecturers, looking for real-life case studies that give examples of the complexities that exist when working with people who have English as a second language,
    • police, lawyers, magistrates, court officials and counsellors,
    • drug and alcohol workers/counsellors,
    • office workers, administrators and other trades people.

    Government officers such as;

    • politicians who are interested in developing effective policies that work for the good of the country and Aboriginal people,
    • local, State and Federal Government agencies and departments, including those dealing specifically with health, education and welfare of Aboriginal people.

    Others will include;

    • community development workers, community educators or anyone interested in the development of indigenous people,
    • Aboriginal people wanting more insight into the “hidden” reasons behind why their people continue to suffer and some positive ways forward into the future.
